LaGrange Shufflers hosting tournament May 7
The LaGrange Woman's Club will host its annual Bridge and Mah Jongg Tournament from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon on May 7. Reserve your table of four for bridge or Mah Jongg by calling Jane Stephens at 706-884-3291. The price of admission ($8) covers a breakfast. The high score at each table wins a prize. Prizes are baked goods provided by members.

Independence Day fireworks/celebration set for July 5 in Franklin
The 2008 Chattahoochee Independence Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, July 5, starting at 4 p.m. on the Franklin Square. This year’s festival will feature many booths that will include arts and crafts, games, food and local entertainment followed by the biggest fireworks show over the Chattahoochee under the direction of V.D. Massey. School groups, churches, civic clubs and associations are also invited to have booths. An example of a few foods available last year included beef shish kabobs, hamburgers, hot dogs, BBQ sandwiches, brunswick stew, nachos, pizza, Hawaiian ice, kettle corn, homemade ice cream, funnel cakes, fish plates, rib plates, corn dogs, chicken nuggets and fried green tomatoes. Activities included train rides, space walk, wagon rides, miniature golf, fishing and basketball. We hope to have many returning vendors this year. Grantville Rec. Summer Camp registration begins
The annual summer camp program for the Grantville Recreation Department will run June 2 through July 25 at the gym located at 97 Brown School Drive (next to West Georgia RESA building.) For more information and to register, call 770-583-2401.

Professional athletes coming to Franklin
Come see professional athletes including a skateboarder, BMX racer, motorcycle stunt rider and a live band perform at two free events on May 6 at East Carrollton Rec. Salsa lessons in LaGrange
The Moonlight Ballroom Dance Club of LaGrange will sponsor a Salsa lesson and ballroom dance on Friday, May 9 at the LaFayette Christian School Gym, 1904 Hamilton Road, LaGrange. Cost is $15 per couple. The Salsa lesson is at 7 p.m. and the dance starts at 8 p.m. Dress is casual. Enjoy swing, Salsa, slow dancing, foxtrot, waltz, rumba, cha-cha, tango, samba and more! Heard EMS Charity Golf Tournament is May 7
Heard County EMS is sponsoring its annual Charity Golf Tournament May 7, starting at 9 a.m. at Oak Mountain Golf Club in Carrollton. Format this year will be 4-Man Scramble (Lauderdale) Cost is $75.00 per player or $300 per team. Paid entry prior to May 1 includes lunch and driving range balls. Proceeds to benefit Heard Fire/ Emergency Services and the Georgia Firefighters Burn Foundation. For information, call Pam at 678-378-0142.

Six Flags tickets available at extension office
Need Six Flags tickets? Stop by the County Extension Office, office #22 in the Heard County Courthouse. Office is located downstairs in the “old Sheriff’s department offices”. Discounted tickets are $67 for Season Passes and $27 for 1-day tickets.  Save yourself some money while helping Heard County 4-H. Tickets are available Monday – Friday 8 a.m. until 12 noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Any questions, call 706-675-3513.

Heard Athletic Boosters meet second Tuesday
The Heard County Athletic Booster Club meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. in the Heard High Cafeteria.
